- I'm having a VERY hard time keeping my Zoom 28.8 VFP connected
- to my net provider. I was wondering if anybody could lend a hand
- with my attempt to resolve this problem.
- I know the problem is with the modem itself because I have USR
- Sporster 28.8 (V.34+ 33.6k) installed in another PC in the room
- next to this one. The USR will connect at 28.8k MOST of the time
- and stay online for hours on end with the same provider. I won't
- even start on the difference in transfer rates between the two; I'd
- be thrilled if the Zoom would simply not hang up all the time.
- Doesn't seem to matter how I connect the Zoom to my ISP (Trumpet
- winsock or Win95 dialup) or which computer it's in, the Zoom likes
- to disconnect and that's that. If it stays connected for an hour I'm
- thouroghly amazed with it, usually it'll hang up 3 or 4 times in that
- period.
- The two modems are set up almost identical in very similar
- machines. Both are set on com 2, and if I'm not mistaken the
- Zoom is just running on the init AT &F &C1 &D2 (the one that's
- right here, black and white in the manual.)
- Am I flogging a dead horse? I know the Zoom is a year or two
- old, but ever since I pulled it out of the shrink wrap I've never
- been happy with it. I really hope that the solution to my problem
- isn't installing another USR into this computer and using the Zoom
- as a paper weight.
- Can ANYBODY lend any advice this way? Would this modem
- be covered under Zoom's 7 year warranty or are they made to
- do this? I really doubt a simple modem init will do the trick, as
- I've tried an obnoxious assortment of them. But hey, this is the
- end of the rope....I'm a consumer not a modem tech, and I'm all
- ears....
-
- I'm honestly not trying to bash Zoom...but it's sooo tempting.
-
- Thanks.
